EVENTS & PROGRAMS

Wickham Park is a non-profit, private foundation whose property extends into both Manchester and East Hartford, Connecticut. The park contains 280 acres of gardens, open fields, woodlands, ponds, picnic areas, sports facilities, and other attractions.

Garden Tours

Scheduled for small groups by appointment and will be guided by Wickham Park staff. These walks will highlight the history of the Wickham Family estate and the development of the ornamental gardens.

Spring Tree Tour
(Free with Park admission)

Join us for an introduction to the Park’s diverse tree collection Walk through the Oriental and Lotus Gardens to see and learn about over 40 varieties of trees, from a giant white oak (Quercus alba, the state tree of Connecticut) to a dwarf mugo pine (Pinus mugo, from alpine Europe), as well as one of the park’s newest trees, a Causasian wingnut (Pterocarya fraxinifolia – we’ll sort out that Latin name!).

If the weather cooperates, the Japanese snowbell (Styrax japonicus) and native fringetrees (Chionanthus virginicus) should be in full bloom. Come to enjoy an easy stroll and learn about the trees’ names, where they grow wild, their uses and folklore.

Amateur Challenge Tournament (ACT XIII)

This introductory disc golf tournament is produced specifically for amateur, recreational, and beginner disc golf players. ACT XIII will take place with two separate events over two days in 2017.

8:00 AM – Park gates open

9:30 AM – Round 1 Starts
12:30 PM – Lunch Break and Contests
1:30 PM – Round 2 starts
4:30 PM – Contest Finals
5:00 PM – Awards Ceremony

Connecticut’s River Valley Garden Tours

Sponsored by the Central Regional Tourism District, Wickham Park is included in the 3 day event featuring Connecticut’s loveliest gardens. The historical tour is from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM and provided by the park director.

Throughout its season, Wickham Park hosts a multitude of weddings and photo sessions that are pre-arranged by reservation. Please assist us in keeping the day special for the newlyweds by respecting their privacy in the reserved areas.

SEPTEMBER 8 thru 10

The Greater Hartford
Disc Golf Open

A full 88-player field will compete in three rounds of 22-holes over three days of competition on the Wickham Park disc golf course. This event is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association as a PDGA A-tier event and will include participation by a number of top touring professional players.

Spectators are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

British Motorcar Show

For 37 years this display of vintage Triumph cars and other British and American sports cars has been hosted and sponsored by the Connecticut Triumph Register. Spectators are welcome to admire the autos and ask questions of their owners.

OCTOBER sun 01

Disc Golf “Widows”
Invitational

Open to all skill levels.

A bring your partner doubles format: husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends, fathers and sons, mothers and sons, children, all welcome for one round of 18 hole disc golf.

Wickham Park standard 18 hole course

Cost:$20/team

There will once again be a variety of divisions to choose from:

Widows (one reg. player and their significant other)
Power Couple (both players play on a somewhat reg. basis)
Children (one player one child, two children, one player child and their non-playing parent)
bro/wo mance (one player one non player that is not a child) this div. is on an as needed basis

All non-player widows,children,non-player parents, and non player bro/wo mance will shoot from alternate (shorter/easy) tees for every hole.

This is a one round 18 hole tournament with a picnic (pot luck) lunch afterwards. Player packs will include glow in the dark mini and Crafty soap.

Registration is from 9:30am-10:15am, round begins shortly after.

Wickham Invitational

For the 36th year, Wickham Park is hosting and sponsoring this high school cross-country meet. This is a regional meet with runners from Connecticut and other New England school systems. Historically, over 3,500 runners compete throughout the day. During the races the Log Cabin is open for refreshments and provides a warm fire in cold weather.

A high school race sponsored through the CIAC, consisting of CT high school runners from state technical high schools competing for the Conecticut Technical Conference Cross Country Championship. Disc Golf Tournament

A Halloween themed disc golf tournament with some rules contortions. Full costumes are required!

1 round, 22 holes, trick or treat dubz.

Trick or treat bring your own partner doubles. Special safari layout where some holes will have a treat for you…and many will have a trick for you. One round event Sunday October 22. Participation requires teams to be dressed in full costume.

This CIAC sponsored cross-country meet involves the runners from the CIAC Divisionals Race. This is an opportunity to watch the state’s outstanding runners in a spectator-friendly environment. During the races the Log Cabin is open for refreshments and provides a warm fire in cold weather.

Girls State Open – 2:00 p.m.
Boys State Open – 2:45 p.m.

Middle School Championship

This is the largest middle school invitational in New England, with over 1,500 runners. These races give young runners the experience of running with large crowds and large numbers of competitors. It also serves as an introduction to the course for those who continue cross-country participation in high school. During the races the Log Cabin is open for refreshments and provides a warm fire in cold weather.

DECEMBER 13 thru 23

34th Annual
Santa’s Workshop

A free event sponsored by Wickham Park. Children of all ages enjoy visits with Santa and his elves and refreshments with Mrs. Claus. Santa’s Workshop provides a chance for children to enjoy a non-commercialized Christmas experience.

Guests are welcome to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to area food pantries.

Hours are 3-6pm weekdays and 1-5pm on weekends. Come and create a new family tradition.
